Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What tradition is North Star? A. We practice the Blue Star tradition. Q. How does someone become a member of North Star? A. To become a member of North Star Grove (Outer Court), there is a probationary period between the group and the individual to check each other out and to make sure the fit is right. After this probationary period, the individual may be accepted as a Student in North Star Grove. Once the Student has completed the appropriate work and assignments, they may be Dedicated. Membership in North Star Coven (Inner Court) requires the individual to be Initiated. Training for Initiation is often a long and hard process. Being a member of the Grove does not guarantee Initiation. Q. Is there a hierarchy in North Star? A. Like all traditional Wiccan groups, there is a hierarchy. Ours consists of three initiatory degrees (First, Second, and Third Degree) and two "pre-degrees" (Dedicant and Neophyte). As a Dedicant, the student has confirmed themselves as a Pagan. This also signifies a point where the student becomes part of the larger family of Blue Star, and it is at this time that they become oathbound in their training. A Neophyte is an apprentice Priesthood degree, where a person has felt a calling to Initiation. This training is very challenging and prepares the Neophyte for Priesthood in the Craft. First Degree Initiates are Priestesses and Priests of our tradition and become a member of their initating Coven. They are competent to train students in the Outer Court and when needed, facilitate/lead Grove rituals. Second Degree Initiation is the elevation to High Priesthood. This is a very challenging degree and requires an intense commitment to the Craft, the tradition and Coven. It is a transitory degree, much like Neophyte, where the Initiate is prepared for the Third Degree. Third Degree Initiation marks the completion of the formal training. Third Degree Initiates are completely autonomous within the tradition, and are entitled to "hive off" and form their own Covens if they so desire (but are not required to). Q. Is North Star currently accepting new students? A. Teaching in North Star is one-on-one, and so whether we are accepting new students will depend on how many students the Priesthood are currently working with. We are always interested in hearing from sincere people interested in training. To contact North Star, please fill out and submit the seeker's questionnaire. Q. Does North Star hold open circles? A. Yes and No. North Star will on occasion allow Students, friends of the group, and those interested in learning more about us to attend certain rituals. The Grove infrequently conducts ritual for a few local public pagan organizations. North Star Coven does not hold open circles. Q. My question isn't on this list. A. Please e-mail us. |
